Roger Sinclair, MASB Advisory Council member (2012), is a specialist in brand valuation and accounting for brands. He was the designer of the globally recognized Brandmetrics valuation tool, which was bought in 2009 by Prophet Brand Strategy. Dr. Sinclair has been an academic partner at Prophet since 2009 and remains a special adviser to the firm and its clients.
In 2011 Roger was commissioned by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) to draft a set of principles for brand valuation in the US. He writes the financial accounting section in Professor Kevin Lane Keller’s Strategic Brand Management and wrote the chapter on Trademarks and Brands for Wiley’s Guide to Fair Value under IFRS.
In April 2015, the MASB board appointed Sinclair as its inaugural fellow and mandated him to work with MASB chairman, Dave Stewart, in researching and establishing a MASB research fellowship. He earned his PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was professor of marketing for a decade. In addition to his fellowship responsibilities, Roger is on the Improving Financial Reporting Project team.
